Doug's Favourite Therapy Quote:
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." - Viktor Frankl
Therapy is the unique opportunity to take an evidence-based approach to curveballs life throws at you. Working with someone who truly understands and values your life, thoughts, experiences, and identity is an extraordinary opportunity. Know that you will embark on a journey of healing, confident that my unwavering support will accompany you throughout every step of the way.
Practice Areas
I provide support and guidance to individuals aged 18 and above. My practice areas are relationships, life transitions, and the challenges associated with aging. Also included in my practice are anxiety, depression, loss, grief, and betrayal trauma. My work also focuses on topics relevant to the LGBTQIA+ community. The challenges of starting a new life in a new country, including immigration and identity, also concern my practice.
Education & Experience
I am Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), which means that I am practicing Psychotherapy under the clinical supervision of Reesa Packard, Ph.D., RP, while I work toward full certification. I am in the final stages of a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program. My practice at the Ottawa Psychotherapy Center is the practical journey that is shaping me as a clinician. I hold a BA honours degree in Psychology from the University of Ottawa, and I live and work in the Nation’s Capital.
Therapeutic Approach
I adjust psychotherapy approaches according to clients’ needs. Therefore, clinical modalities are explained and discussed, and collaboratively determined, with my clients. However, my clinical interests most apply to Adlerian, Person-Centered, Psychodynamic, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Humanistic, and narrative approaches.
About Doug
The bearded man you see in the picture has worn many hats throughout his life. I am a public servant and a therapist whose house plants should be concerned about their peers’ survival rate. I am deeply enthusiastic about psychotherapy and the positive contributions it can make. I firmly believe in providing a hassle-free therapeutic experience, drawing inspiration from Carl Rogers’ concept of unconditional positive regard. I don’t tolerate raisins on my butter tart.
Doug is currently accepting new clients.
