Elise's Favourite Therapy Quote:
Real change is seldom a giant step; it’s usually a small one. Small but deeply real. - Jeff Brown
Welcome! Along with joy and ease, life brings moments of challenge, stress and distress. When you feel overwhelmed, stuck or like you need something to change, it can be helpful to reach out for support. Within a safe, respectful and collaborative process, we will review the unique circumstances that contributed to the challenges you are facing. We will explore old and new perspectives that connect you with your inner resources and sense of empowerment. Together, we will discover small but significant changes that help you create the life you want.
Practice Areas
I work with professionals who are navigating the challenges of work stress, overwhelm, burnout and medical leave. I work with caregivers who are striving to manage the demands of supporting loved ones through short term and long term conditions. I also support other therapists facing work stress and compassionate burnout.
I work with individuals who are moving through recent loss and complex/unresolved grief. I offer support to help you stabilize, cope, and eventually find a meaningful engagement with life. I work most often with issues of anxiety, emotional dysregulation and healing, self-esteem, major life transitions, physical health issues, work/life balance and purpose, and relationship issues. As a second generation survivor, I am committed to helping individuals who are recovering from spiritual or cult abuse.
Education & Experience
I have a M.Sc. in Psychology and a Masters of Counselling: Art Therapy from Athabasca University. I have worked in mental health for the past 18 years and have been practicing as a Psychotherapist since 2017. I have worked at the Canadian Mental Health Association and collaborated with Parkinson’s Society, Alzheimer’s Society, and the Family Services at the Royal Ottawa. I believe in life-long learning and continually support my professional development with supervision and specialized courses. I also believe in investing in own self-development and healing to better accompany you in the therapeutic journey.
Therapeutic Approach
My approach is guided by all the wise people who came before me and all the wise clients who come to see me. My work is deeply inspired by psychologists, philosophers, researchers and poets. I anchor my practice in evidence-based approaches and draw on various psychotherapy/art therapy modalities that recognize the role of cognition, emotions, perceptions, somatic reactions, and autonomic nervous system patterns in supporting our well-being. I also honour the innate wisdom of each client and tailor my approach to work ‘along the grain’ of your temperament, preferences, and goals.
About Elise
Outside of work, I’m happiest when I’m creating. I enjoy creating connections and moments with friends, family, and my community. I’m a visual artist who creates art for the joy of it and to raise awareness of mental health issues. I’m an avid renovator always keen to take on new projects. I also love creating underwater bubbles and scuba dive as often as I can. I’m a retired dog handler and loved being part of Carleton’s pet therapy team.
