Fran's Favourite Therapy Quote:

“…we never need to judge a client’s behavior as “good” or “bad,” “right” or “wrong”; instead we can ask, nonjudgmentally and compassionately, “Is this working to give you the life you want?” – Russ Harris

You may be considering how to talk with someone about your issues. Therapy can be challenging. It is important to have a safe and welcoming space to talk. I will approach working with you intent on listening with respect and care. I believe in working together to help find solutions, so that you can live your best life possible.

Practice Areas

Issues can stem from different areas, such as anxious or depressed feelings, difficulty with control over emotions, past traumatic experience, current crises over relationship, coming to terms with aging, or LGBTQ+ issues. I focus on building self-awareness, exploring where issues may be getting “stuck”, and developing new ways of being and doing that can lead to more workable solutions for your life and needs.

Education & Experience

I am currently completing a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University while practicing under the Clinical Supervision of Reesa Packard, Ph.D., RP, at the Ottawa Psychotherapy Center. I am retired from my previous career but returning to the study of psychotherapy as a calling which has deep meaning for me. As an older person, I draw on lived experience, from difficulties such as surviving cancer and dealing with aging, loss and death, to finding resilience and new paths to follow.

Therapeutic Approach

I believe it is important to align as much as possible my approaches to working with you, with your present circumstances and needs. I draw from humanistic, existential and cognitive-behavioural therapies as well as elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, mindfulness, guided imagery and hypnotherapy techniques. I consider that you, as client, are a co-creators of the therapeutic process, and I can at times encourage helpful self-therapy work such as journal writing, in parallel to our therapeutic process together.

About Fran

I enjoy walking, hiking, and being outdoors. My partner and I spend as much time as we can at a small cabin where woods, wind and water create a healing tranquility that lets us better take on life’s challenges. I also care about reading, writing, learning, and incorporating creativity into as many areas of life as possible. I value the brief time we have to be with others.
