Jennifer's Favourite Therapy Quote:
“Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it.” - Helen Keller
Welcome. You might not be sure how you got to this place in your life, but you know you aren’t where you want to be. Your decision to do something about your struggle is brave. Together, we can look at what’s going on for you. In a safe and supportive way, we can look at what is not working and what feels stuck. We can explore ways to heal, change, and grow. Whether it’s just you, or you and your partner, you can find your way toward better.
Practice Areas
I work with adults (18+) and older adults (65+). I specialize in couple relationships, supporting women’s reproductive mental health, and healing from grief and trauma. I help couples improve their emotional bond, adjust to parenthood, improve sexual connection, recover from infidelity, and navigate separation and divorce. I have experience working with PMS and PMDD, pregnancy, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, perimenopause and menopause transitions. I support parents and adult children struggling with disconnection and estrangement. I work with anxiety, depression, traumatic bereavement, complex grief, and trauma. I connect well with caregivers and often work with nurses, teachers, and therapists. I also have experience specifically with religious abuse and trauma and am comfortable working with clients for whom faith, religion and spirituality are important.
Education & Experience
I have a Masters of Divinity (clinical counselling) degree from Tyndale University. I completed a certificate program in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at Wilfrid Laurier University. I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy from the International Center for Education in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). Before my training as a psychotherapist, I spent over two decades working with couples preparing for marriage and counselled university students as they navigated life transitions and their relationships to their families of origin and faith communities/traditions.
Therapeutic Approach
I believe that safe and secure relationships are how we all grow and thrive, and I work to create that safety with my clients. My primary approach is Emotionally Focused Therapy with both couples and individuals. I work from a client-centered, trauma-informed, and systemic perspective that considers you as an individual in a larger context of your family, culture, and world. I also incorporate cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindful self-compassion, somatic (body based) approaches, narrative therapy, internal family systems, strength based and attachment-based perspectives.
About Jennifer
I love all things green and growing. I check out more library books than I can possibly read, mess up the kitchen while cooking, and laugh loud enough to locate me in a crowd. Riding my bike, swimming in fresh water, preparing tasty food, spending time with my family, and playing board games bring me joy. I am nurtured by time outside and I am so grateful to have a dog who helps me make this happen every day.
