Jessica's Favourite Therapy Quote:
“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable.” — Fred Rogers
Despite our efforts to anticipate struggles, life can be unpredictable and difficult to cope with when hope is lost. Reaching out for support can be overwhelming, yet it is often the first step towards change. Healing, flexibility, growth, and recovery can be found and personal and therapeutic goals can be reached through a (re)discovery of strengths and a brave willingness to embrace vulnerability.
Practice Areas
In my practice, I offer services to individual adults, older adults, and mature youth. I strive to provide non-judgemental and compassionate care to every individual I support. I specialize in anxiety, depression, relationship issues, substance misuse, emotional dysregulation, stress, trauma and/or abuse and other mental health concerns including, self-esteem, self-worth, and emotional regulation. I also provide support for individuals experiencing grief and loss, or navigating life transitions. When supporting others, I prioritize empowerment and collaboration by offering psychoeducation, insight into self-report assessments/mental health screeners, and a wide variety of optional therapeutic resources. I encourage individuals to find their authentic selves by sharing my authenticity.
Education & Experience
I have earned a Master’s of Counselling with a specialization in Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University and completed an internship counselling to at-risk pregnant and/or parenting youth. I have also earned an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Carleton University. I have experience
working in a group practice, and on interdisciplinary teams, and have received clinical supervision from a psychologist and fellow psychotherapists throughout my career. I have nearly 8 years of experience and continue to seek out development opportunities to improve and provide the best care possible.
Therapeutic Approach
In my therapeutic relationships, I prioritize the development of trust, focus on strengths, and seek collaboration with a client-centred and trauma-informed perspective. I practice with an integrative approach utilizing Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), while I strive to provide safety, choice, and empowerment to each individual. I also work to find a balance between the management of everyday difficulties and urgent stressors, with healing deeper pieces underlying presenting issues.
About Jessica
I love spending time outdoors; puddle jumping in the spring, my garden growing in the summer heat, apple picking in the fall, and the silent beauty of snowfall on winter nights. I also have enjoyed recreational dodgeball for over 10 years. I love reading fantasy books, playing video games and board games, as well as creative hobbies like cooking, painting, and cross-stitching. Aside from being a psychotherapist, I find great purpose as a mother and deeply appreciate my support system of family, friends, and furry companions.
